Refunding of France v Ireland Match Tickets

February 16th, 2012

The Irish Rugby Football Union announced yesterday that it has reached agreement with the French Rugby Federation for the refunding of the face value cost of match tickets for the postponed France v Ireland RBS 6 Nations match on Saturday, February 11.

The process for seeking a refund is as follows:

  • The French Rugby Federation (FFR) has agreed to a closing date of Thursday, February 23 for the return and refunding of the full match ticket price.
  • In order to achieve this deadline, all tickets must be received by 5pm, Tuesday, February 21 within Ireland.
  • Tickets that were purchased through a provincial club or www.irishrugby.ie can be returned to any of the provincial branch offices in Connacht, Leinster, Munster and Ulster or to the IRFU head office at 10-12 Lansdowne Road, Ballsbridge, Dublin 4.
  • The IRFU will then co-ordinate the return of the tickets to the French Rugby Federation and follow through on securing the refunds. It is anticipated this process could take until the end of March.
  • The FFR will only refund actual physical tickets that are returned.
  • The FFR have indicated that all other tickets purchased by Irish supporters outside of the allocation given to the IRFU must contact their point of purchase directly in order to claim a refund, e.g. tickets bought through travel agents or ticket sites must be refunded through those outlets.
  • All match tickets will still be valid for the rescheduled game on Sunday, March 4. However, the FFR will not be reissuing tickets for the game, so they will not permit entry to the Stade de France unless the same match ticket is produced at the venue on the new match day.

Philip Browne,IRFU Chief Executive, said: “While the timelines are not ideal for supporters, we have pushed hard to get this undertaking from the French Federation to refund ticket costs for Irish supporters who are unable to attend the rescheduled match.

“The team, and the IRFU, hugely appreciate the effort and expense Irish supporters went to in order to be at the match and we hope this gesture will go some way towards making up for the inconvenience they suffered.”

Brian’s Blog: Training, Rest And Toning It Down For Ireland

February 1st, 2012

Brian O’Driscoll will not be pulling on a green jersey on Sunday but he hopes to be back with Leinster before the end of the season, and he will be at the Aviva Stadium this weekend to cheer on the team! Brian brings us up to date in his latest blog.

Things are progressing very nicely and I’m hoping to have some playing involvement with Leinster before the end of the season.

There have been peaks and troughs mentally on the rehabilitation road but I’m energised by the prospect of being able to play again and, over the next few weeks, stepping up the levels in training to incorporate skills work.

I have to be sensible but the body is responding positively. In fact the enforced lay-off has been hugely beneficial in offsetting the wear and tear of high level rugby over a sustained period of time.

I feel very fresh and the only minor quibble on my part in my desire to get back playing is that a two-month rest would have been preferential to the six-month injury sabbatical.

I’m in at 8am in the morning and usually have three sessions including physiotherapy done by lunch-time and then the rest of the day is my own.

I might be in line for some water boy duties again with Leinster in the near future.

The last time I suffered a longer term injury (post Lions 2005), I let my fitness run down to zero. I’m not willing to sacrifice a day in getting back this time so I’ve been working hard since the operation and remain dedicated to the recovery process.

It’s an attitude that comes with maturity but also a realisation of how much playing means to me.

It feels strange not to be involved in the RBS 6 Nations Championship. I’m intrigued by how the boys are getting on in camp, about new game-plans and the rejigged coaching structure.

I will be at the Wales game on Sunday because I was kindly given two tickets by IRFU Chief Executive Philip Browne for the Presidential Box. I may have to tone it down vocally, which will be a real challenge, because I get animated watching matches.

Kidney can call on me says Murphy

January 12th, 2012

Ireland full-back Geordan Murphy has delayed his international retirement in the hope of making Declan Kidney’s RBS 6 Nations squad this weekend. The Leicester full-back, who will come up against Ulster in round five of the Heineken Cup on Friday, will be looking to impress after holding talks with the Ireland coach about his availability. The 33-year-old was expected to retire after the World Cup quarter-final defeat to Wales, but has thrown his hat in the ring ahead of the rematch in Dublin on February 5.

“I’ve spoken with Declan and we thrashed it out,” said Murphy, who has won 74 international caps.

“I didn’t want to be one of those players who retired and then came back. I’m not looking at achieving a lot by holding a bag for a week or two.”

“I suppose I’m on standby really. I said I’d hang around for another few months at least. But if there are any injuries, I’d be happy to come in and be a part of a match-day 22 or 23.”

One player who will be missing for the Six Nations is Munster back row Denis Leamy, who has gone under the knife to correct a long-standing hip problem.

Ireland qualify for the European Championships, who is going?

October 27th, 2011

Being close friends of Trap, we advise him on his use of local idiomatic phrases. As such we can confirm “that the cat is truly in the sack”, well done to the boys in green. It’s been a while since we were in a major international championship, so dust of your inflatable bananas we’re going east.
